Horizontal Gap Between Divs

27 New Member
I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction. I have a webpage that works in Firefox (Mac & PC), IE7 (PC - works OKish!), Safari & Camino but when I preview the webpage in IE5.5 or IE6 it breaks with a big horizontal gap between the header div and the rest of the page. Below I've attached a link to the page:

http://ridgedale.powweb.com/TinHorse/sbx_sustain.php

I've also provided a couple of screen grabs showing the problem in IE5.5 and IE6:

IE5.5:

IE6:

Firefox2007 displays correctly:

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The easiest thing to try is adding 'vertical-align:bottom' to the <h1> containing that image. That's one IE bug but the other has slipped my mind for some strange reason. I should know this.

On second thought, forget that. Let me look again.

For some reason, I can't get my IE viewer to work with that page. I don't run Windows and my Windows box isn't available so I'll have to try again tomorrow. You can still try what I suggested above to see what happens.

drhowarddrfine, thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, the image you are seeing ing inside the <h1> tags of the header div is for the text heading only. The typewriter image is a background-image with no-repeat and a fixed position tied to the header div, so what you have suggested won't work.

Thanks again.

I've managed to resolve this problem by setting

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. margin: 0;
on the <h1> class.

Thanks again.

That was going to be my other suggestion but it looked like you already had that applied there. This is the second IE bug I mentioned above.

I got two <div>'s, one of them with float:right, but they aren't aligned hrizontally at the same level, when viewed in ie. in opera it works fine, the second div is on the same height as the first one. THe two divs are also nested in a third one, which got an absolute height of 15px, but ie ignores that completely. is tehre a way round this, or do i have to live with that? Mike

Hi folks, I have a very simple requirement - I want to have a row of divs of fixed size (but unknown number of them) This will be in a container div and scrolled by other means Is there any way of doing this so that the row is maintained and does not break at the browser width? Typically IE does what I want.... although I gather its "wrong" on the specs. I can see myself ending up using a table, which spoils some other plans

Hello, silly problem maybe, but... I'm trying to get a horizontal menu to work with DIVs but I'm having trouble getting the menu items to "fill" the menu DIV. Basically I have a surrounding DIV as the menu tag and then as menu items I have four DIVss, with "display:inline" in the CSS to get them to line up horizontally. What I want to do is to give them each a width of 25% of the surrounding DIV to make the menu look nice. But I'm not...

I have two DIVs on the same line, a left navigation frame and the right content. I want both of those items on the same line. Lets say the left nav content is 140pixels and the right content is 1400 pixels. In internet explorer, if I put these together the right content is pushed below the left nav on a separate row. I want them on the same line. I guess I could use a table and that would fix it, but I don't have access to change the...

This is just barely above my head when it comes to css. I have a div that needs to contain rows of floating divs, but I need each row not to wrap on to the next one and continue to go right. The user will use a overflow: auto scroll to scroll to see the rest of the divs. illustration: # = === = = === === # = == = = # == ================== # =========

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
