IE 6 (WinXP) and CSS positioning broken??

Hi -

Sorry for the crosspost.

The following page:
was generated with Photoshop CS and uses CSS for positioning. The page
validates (unfortunately, you can't validate it from the geocities server as
they paste in a bunch of crud which hoses the validation) but the top row of
buttons (home, about etc) do not show up in IE 6, they are about 6px too far
down. I'm not really sure why this is as it looks fine in every other
browser I've tested it with (Win: Netscape/Mozilla, Firefox, Opera; Mac:
Omniweb, Opera, IE, Safari, Firefox; *nix: The KDE one, mozilla, Firefox).
Can anyone shed some light on this, it's making me nuts! Thanks.

After quite a while of wxPython I'm getting back into PyQt, mainly due to the announcement by Trolltech that they will make a GPL version of Qt4 for Windows (and Phil-T said he will make a PyQt to go with it eventually!) I'm currently using PyQt 3.12 that comes with the BlackAdder demo, it seems to work fine with Python 2.3.5 except that it doesn't support the WinXP look'n'feel, the QStyle "WindowsXP" isn't included, and using a...

I'm having a problem with the positioning of a div block in IE6. http://www.uah.edu/Athletics/index.shtml When the window is resized to a width smaller than the width of the "body" div (that is, the main content of the page), that content jumps downward. The content displays properly in Mozilla Firebird 0.6, creating the necessary horizontal scrollbar. I spent a couple of hours looking at the past few months of posts to

I am trying to re-work an old site by replacing the html with css. On the main page, I have a logo image which I needed centred on the initial screen. I found the solution here: http://www.wpdfd.com/editorial/wpd0103.htm#toptip (the second example) The problem is, under the image is a large table. But using the above positioning, now the table starts at the top of the page and runs underneath the image.

I've had some trouble getting IE to behave in respect of applying absolute positioning to a span on an a:hover. I can get it to work, but I don't understand why certain code causes it to fail to display the repositioned block. See an example at http://www.digitalrat.co.uk/test2/index.html Can anyone explain what IE thinks it's doing? The page is ugly as I've ripped most of the content & styling out to

Hi I'm trying to use os.path.getmtime to check if a file has been modified. My OS is WinXP. The problem is, that when the os changes from/to daylight savings time, the result is suddenly off by 3600 seconds ie. one hour, even if the file remains the same. I've tried using win32file.GetFileTime, and it reports a consistent number, regardless of DST.

I'm trying to find a design that would allow me to build web pages without having to worry about compatibility issues (not too much, in any case,,,) I've came across this CSS layout technique: http://alistapart.com/articles/fauxabsolutepositioning It calculates the left offset from a fixed position, as opposed to calculating it from the right edge of the preceding element by using a combination of position: relative, left: 100% and a...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
