Creating Discussion Forums

I am creating a site which will eventually need a discussion forum of
some sort. How would I approach this? Is this done with java, html, or
somehing else? Thanks

There are Java / JavaScript solutions for this, but more common is the
use of PHP forums boards (such as PHPBB or XMB) that use a database
backend. PHPBB is one of several forum boards like this that are free to
use and easy to install. You just need to be sure your host supports PHP
and MySQL databases.

Hi, I'm developing a community/discussion/collaboration/groupware/bulletin board type application which will be ASP.Net based, using RDBMS for persistence. I'm looking for any standard frameworks or toolkits that I could take advantage of, especially open source stuff. I can't re-use a whole existing application because I need users to be...

I wish to build a framework for our developers that will include a singleton pattern. But it can not be a base class because it has a private constructor and therefore can be inherit. I thought maybe a Template can be use for that, but C# does not support Templates (will be C# generics in mid 2005). Does anyone have a solution on how the...

Our tech support group is looking to implement better online assistance - and we like the idea of having a news group similar to this one (microsoft.public.dotnet.framework.aspnet) but without requiring users to use a news reader. We've seen other sites that offer similar features, but accessible via a browser. Where do I get started? ......

I have a table that stores the content for a web site I'm making. Each one has a unique ID so I can grab it via the querystring. Since it's being done via a query string, I didn't want to use default GUIDs, since they're just really verbose. So, I'm just making my own. What's the best way to check for uniqueness on insert? My thinking was...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For...
