Horizontal & Vertical Centering

I *HAVE* Googled the hell out of it, but there's nothing I can
understand (in words of one syllable or less) that works for me.

If you go to http://www.journeys.ws/layout.html, on the
header/banner I'm trying to center the text vertically and
horizontally to the right of the image on the left. As you can
see, I've got the vertical part, I just can't get the horizontal
part to go along with it.

Any ideas?

Hat in hand, I beseech thee... ;-)

TIA

Neill

In your amm.css file, in the #outer properties add "margin: auto;" and
it will center that div in the remaining space to the right (in
Mozilla/Netscape). I'm not sure how to make it do so in Internet
Explorer, since nothing I try seems to work. Good luck getting IE to
display it right though :)

Thanks, but I'd seen that one. I don't want to h & v center a
fixed size block in the browser area. I want to h & v display
*any* text alongside of a floated image within a div.

Is IE6 known to have a bug whereby a vertical table cell border (with border-collapse: collapse), instead of stopping at the bottom of a horizontal border, sticks up into it by one pixel? My other browsers display horizontal borders as lying over vertical borders. IE6 *almost* does this, with the vertical border encroaching into the horizontal by the one pixel. -- Harlan Messinger Remove the first dot from my e-mail address. Veuillez...

Okay, I've been scouring Google for hours looking for a solution to this problem, but as of yet I can't find one. XHTML Transitional seems to specify that I can no longer set a table's height to 100% and vertically center content inside of it. Therefore, I'm seeking a way, preferably in CSS to vertically center a site. Here's more of a visual to what I have: /********************************

Hello This is a test example: http://www.markusernst.ch/anthracite/ http://www.markusernst.ch/anthracite/living_divani.html After googling and experimenting for several hours, I ended up doing this demo with tables. The main problems are the vertical centering of the info area, and of the text inside the squares.

Is there a way to declare horizontal positioning (without referring to or changing vertical) or vertical positioning (without referring to or changing horizontal) in a single declaration? foo-left and foo-right will specify the horizontals in two declarations, but bar { foo: auto 1em; } sometimes results in the vertical changing. Is there no 'as-is' in place of 'auto'? Actual 'horizontal' and 'vertical' keywords to go with...

I am trying to incorporate a CSS drop-down menu into a site (suckerfish menu). The menu gets lost behind the content below it, but only on one of the drop downs (News). The error occurs on all of the browsers I have tested it on (IE6, IE7, Firefox, Opera and Safari). It is probably something simple, but I can't find it! Here is the CSS (using external style sheets): style-temp.css (Main style sheet for the site): * { font-family:...

You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers.
