xml data compression schemes

Wished to know in detail abt the below

1-what are the various compression strategies designed specifically for XML data.?

2- comparison between AXECHOP AND TREECHOP techniques to other XML compression schemes with respect to compression ratio and compression time in detail.

3-It is said that "XML's verbose nature tends to increase the size of a data file by as much as ten-fold" what is the reason for that ? what is this verbose nature ?
