how fast can an ordinar computer solve a linear sistem of equations with 1 000 000 lines?

That depends on the system and the equation.

how fast can an ordinar computer solve a linear sistem of equations with 1 000 000 lines?
e.g. have a look at iLog (formerly known as CPlex), it solves linear systems
with millions of constraints very fast, but then again that software pacakage
tries to guess/find special structures in the matrix (sparsity, bands etc.)
