Have you ever tested Linux or Unix?

I'm posting this question here, as I assume more people will read it here and it's directed especially at people who DON'T have any Linux or Unix experience (and would therefore not look in the Linux/Unix Forum).

I'm planning a new article for the Howto Section to clear up the common misconceptions about Linux, for example:
  • It's difficult to install
  • You have to know shell script
  • You have to compile everything yourself
  • You have to pay for Linux
  • You can't use Windows and Linux parallel
  • Linux is only for freaks
and so on and so on. But I can't do this on my own, so I've created a Thread here to collect ideas, thoughts, suggestions and questions from everybody who has or hasn't ever used Linux or Unix.

Please answer to that thread, not here.

Greetings,
Nepomuk
