[b]Hi. I making a program who is don't let the system get down and protect from virus
It's controls a */dll and others files.

So if is posibly the programs run before the system is load
To start before the system is loadnig, you know when show the picture of Windows and the progressbar. By the way if you are using Vista(I use) it dont have picture of Vist it's have just a Progressbar

So if you know something abot that send me
DO YOU WANT TO GET IN MY TEAM

I can move this thread to somewhere else if you (or the OP) wants. Where should I put it?
I've moved it to Software Development. I'll check with the Admins and see whether they agree.

do you guys even know what an operating system is? Have a read (I think you fall under the category of hobbyists).

I already read that one. Also the page about kernels I already read. The only problem for me to go on is the lack of knowledge of C++ (and assembly would come in handy to). But I'm starting to work on that.

I don't know about VACE but i know about myself that i know what a OS is.
Because now days in our univ we are studying OS and doing work on C/C++ and after a month we will start working Assembly as well.
So i think we ll be able to make an OS of our own some day.
And i also know that this is a very difficult job. But those are also people like us who made other OS. SO cant we make an OS?
We need to be expert in C/C++ and Assembly as well in others and we will.

So thanx a lot for your link it ll helpful for us.

I think the problem is that when, for example, Steve Wozniak created Apple DOS while on an intercity flight, an OS didn't need to do very much. (After all, who had ever seen one? You could throw together a "model T" OS and everyone would stand around gaping in awe.)

These days, the majority of people use things like Windows Vista and various Linux distributions, which have evolved over many years of work by people who (presumably) understand operating systems. So any OS you build now, to be of any use, would need to do a lot. To be taken at all seriously, it would need to be at least as good as the flakier of the Linux distros.

PM stands for "Private Message", it's build in in the forum, you just have click the person's username to go to his profile page, and then you can click on a link "send a private message to xxxx".
And "duys"? I don't know

Vace - nobody thinks you are kidding, however I believe some people might wonder if you have underestimated the time kernel development requires (how many iterations over how many years has the Linux kernel gone through?) .

Anyway, you asked for a link, so have you looked at kernel.org ?

PS - there are many people who believe that the number of programs you write do not make you a good programmer, rather a developer should be judged by the quality of the code they produce.

I personally do not think much of virus writers, mostly because it is easier to destroy than to create, and people can foil 99% of you by simply not using Windows.

Vace-

I did not say you were not a good programmer, I haven't seen your code - I have no idea how good a programmer you are. I said I don't believe most (not all, most) virus writers are very talented. That does not mean there aren't some out there who are. There are two systems that pop immediately to mind that are frameworks to deliver exploits that are coded very well. However, I do believe these to be the exception, rather than the rule.

You brought it up that you were a "virus writer" (on a site that has a declared policy against anything of the sort), and keep referencing yourself as one. I'm just saying, in the security field that gets you little to no credit. I'm hoping that soon you will break away from identifying yourself as one, and move on to "developer," or even "kernel developer" - I think that is not only a much more noble aspiration, but more legal and marketable as well ;).

And I never questioned your understanding of a kernel, I was attempting to re-interpret some of the concerns posted here - I think it would be great if you guys were able to create an OS, but to make one that will be able to compete with Windows and Linux, it will take several years, possibly several decades. If I questioned your understanding of a kernel, I would have linked you to howthingswork.com or something else giving a more basic view, rather than kernel.org which holds the development and the source for the Linux kernel.

You can take the early versions of Linux and use them as a bit of a guide - not only see where they were going, but see what features had to be added in, what the most common problems were, what the most common exploits were, how they structured their code, how they versioned it, things like that that will help you a great deal with creating your project plan and timeline rather than just jumping into "creating a kernel" without any sort of plan, or exact idea of where you are going. You are a programmer - you should know that you need a clear goal - good documentation, good pseudocode, and defined goals/modules.

I'm sorry if my post came off as condescending or attacking, I was just attempting to clarify what I thought the main issue would be that you would run into (the commitment of spending that much time in front of your IDE/debugger). I think this is a great project and wish you and your team the best.

heya vace,

don't take it personal ... all what was said here is to help or guide you in the right direction ... as far as i can see ... nobody said that you CANNOT do it ... only pointing out some basic things that you should notice to get a better overview of the complexity that is associated with the development of an OS ... and at this point i wish you the best too with that project.

i'm even convinced that virus-writing is not a goal that good programmers should spend their time with :) ... since it does harm those people that are not aware of it and thus the wrong ones. i DO think that good programmers are kind of good hackers that should exploit the security issues that occur ... even with ms or linux or whatever application ... but not for destroying but for fixing it ... do you know what i mean? writing viruses seems to show a bad attitude while hacking a system and only showing that it is hackable is certainly a good thing since the system may be fixed now and thus it will be improved ...

best wishes to you and your team - vace ...

kind regards

We are not attacking you, Vace. We're just wondering why you talk like creating an OS is something you can do as easily as writing a simple calculator-program. And of course others are trying to make clear that writing virusses isn't something to be proud of, it's being proud of destroying other people's stuff.

Also, Linux programs are not exe files - but you can find several compilers by doing a Google search for "linux c++ compiler". I personally use gcc.

What am I saying that is attacking? I never said you were a bad programmer, I said that I don't like virus programmers. That's it. I'm sorry you took it personally, but that's not a personal attack against you. If you hadn't noticed, I have been attempting to support you developing a kernel, trying to give you links and advice. I can stop if you want.

I haven't heard of any compilers that run on Windows and compile for Linux, though I suppose it's possible. I think the closest you are going to get is Cygwin - a Linux emulator for Windows. But there you will be compiling with gcc, but it's a Windows port, so you'll still have exe files (and these won't run on Linux machines, as they are .exe's).

A windows compiler to create linux programs? Wouldn't it be better to get linux and run a linux compiler on it, you need linux anyway to test the programs you create.

Start building? Maybe we should gather a bit more information about coding so that you computer can use it without any usage of windows/linux/... resources.

And really, nobody is attacking you...
