Help with excel function

I have an excel document that is in a horrible format. It is for employees schedules.

Example:

John Doe

Thu 11/19/07

Fri 11/20/07

Sat

Joe Dirk

Mon

I was attempting to use this in the adjacent sheet
=IF(ISNUMBER(LEFT(employee_schedules.rpt!B19,1)*1) =TRUE,A2,employee_schedules.rpt!B19)

no luck! I need it to repeat "John Doe's" name through the dates listed, then when gets to "Joe Dirk" do the same and so on.....HELP PLEASE...
