Inputting a reference numba in Word, so it retrieves other fields from Access 2 word

I need advice and the best possible way to do this.

I want a process that allows me to enter a clients reference number in MS Word letter to a client, so that when i do this, automatically from Access or Excel his name and address fields would appear in the MS Word letter.

Is it better to source the data from Access or Excel, and how would i go about it.

Please need help, thanks
