Simple Number Problem

What does the following list of numbers have in common and what would the next number be:

2, 5, 5, 4, 5, 6, 3, 7, X

the number of bars on an LED/LCD (display) required to display different numbers.....

eg
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. 1 = |
  2.     |   
  3. (2 bars) etc.....

I would guess 2, 2, 2 but my guess would be based on a hope that you have one too many 2s in your question.

is the answer,

i thought it was some binary code to start of with but it is much simpler

i do actually know the answer, i didnt pull these numbers from thin air
