"Open a command prompt to your ... directory" - What does this mean?

I'm having trouble with installing something that requires me running a script using a command prompt. The instructions say that I need to open a command prompt to my /script/script_name/ directory and after I do that, I need to type in a file name and it should do the rest. After I get into my FTP, what command do I need to type?

Sorry if this is poorly worded - I have no idea what I'm doing =(

Issuing a command on a remote server is most likely accomplished by logging in using Telnet or other termal application. Then you'd run shell commands as if you were working on a local machine.

From #3:

Open a command prompt to your /plugins/p13_download_manager/p13_download_manager/ directory and type install.bat to integrate the changes. This will patch each of your existing download manager files and then delete any temporary files.
I would translate "open a command promp" to "login from your termal application (like telnet)". That is, if this is a remote server that we're talking about.

1) Is this a remote server or a local machine?
2) Do you have a user account on this machine?
3) Can you log into this machine by means other than FTP or a browser?

1) This is a remote server
2) Yes, I have a user account on the server
3) Hmm... I've been able to log into it through my FTP and Command Prompt (Start->Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt)

Well there you go... Since you are able to log into it through Command Prompt (Start->Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt), you should be able cd (change directory) to the directory in question. Then type the command.

Judging by your edit, you got into the directory. Now type install.

When I type install or install.bat the only thing that it does is tell me "Invalid Command" :(

Do I need to type anything before or after install.bat or install?

Type 'dir'. You should get a list of files which include install.bat. It it's not there, the problem is explained and you'll need to make sure the files were unzipped properly. If it is there, I'm stumped.

I guess I need an update, mostly. Did you get a list of files in that directory and way install.bat in that list? Maybe there is just one .zip file?

Yep. Now I see where you are. An FTP prompt is not what you are after.
I haven't done remote login since the old days of dial-up. A google search for "remote login windows" turned up some interesting things. One of which was Start->Programs->Accessories->Remote Desktop. You need some means of getting a promp from the server that asks for your user name and password, then gives you a "server/path >" type of prompt.

I do connect to the server though.

That's an FTP prompt. That's not what you want.
