simple excel questions

I have two simple questions:

I am trying to create a document using an excel spreadsheet format. I am trying to create a column that will contain numbers, just plain numbers as in account numbers for credit cards. When I formet the cell for a "number" it automatically changes the last number of my entry to 0 and/or it changes the format of a simple number entry to things like 4567+11 or other odd combinations. What am I doing wrong in the formatting process to not be able to enter a simple list ofnumbers like: 12345678

also: suddenly when I hit my tab key on my keyboard, it is automattcally bringing up the excel page I have been working on. This has not happened before. Normally I can use the tabl to tab through applicatins etc., but as of today, all my tab does is bring up my faulty excel page.

thansk for any help

Your "numbers" are actually text, since you are not performing computations on them. So type each one starting with a quote mark to make it text. Single quote will left-align the number in the cell, double quote will right-align it, ^ will center. Thus to right-align your sample number, type "12345678 (note: only the one quote at the beginning). This alignment can be changed later with an alignment command from the main menu.
