When someone asks a question which might not fit in with the use of the web as seen by other users it doesn't mean its a pointless question.
Maybe an example would illustrate what I'm talking about (and there are many many such examples available as you all will have seen at one point or another):

No. (And that is a good thing as unrequited sound is unwelcome from a
web page)
Richard.
web page". This didn't aid JellyON in his search at all (in fact there are quite a few "cross-browser" solutions which in inevitably include detecting the browser and using the embed/background sound tags appropriately).
But the issue here is not that the answer "No" was wrong - we all make mistakes. The issue is the snide comment that basically the web is only for uses that Richard deems appropriate.
To offer one example of when rollover sounds could be very useful is in a project that teaches English. A word would play (i.e. the sound associated with that word) when the mouse is hovered over it and might link to a dictionary definition onclick. That way a student could hover over the sentence and read along with it. Lots of childrens web sites also make use of this kind of multi-media experience onmouseover and onclick to captivate the child's attention.
The web is an ever expanding medium for the provision of information, whether that be text/images/audio/video or whatever else. If we were still in the 1980's Richard might comment that images are unwelcome additions to the web because they take too long to load.
What people want to code is their own business. If you don't want to use a site because it includes "unrequited sound" then so be it - that is your option, but please let people code whatever they want to and if you don't have any relavant or useful information to add to a string - just don't post.
This post is directed at all the Richards of the world - constructive help is what people want, not snide comments as to why you think what they are trying to do is pointless - that's up to them. This being my first post on the forum, I haven't been the victim of any such comments myself, but it still bugs me that others can't just post simple questions without someone else jumping on them for the sole purpose of stroking their own egos.
