6502 processor - what clock speed did it run

8,435 Expert 8TB
Hi all.

Does anyone remember what the clock speed was on the 6502 processor which was used in the old Apple II?

According to Wikipedia it ran at 1MHz, but I think this is wrong. Wasn't it 1 KHz?

The original Apple I and II used the 6502, and later the Apple //e used the 65C02. I don't think that 1KHz would have done it. I 98% sure that it was 1MHz.

This data sheet says "Low Power consumption, 150uA@1MHz" for the later model.

I found data on the 6502. It was a scan of a photocopy, but it was legible. it says "Cycle time 1uS". So the pedia is right.

Yes, I knew about the 65C02 (used to write assembler for it).

I'm willing to accept the consensus (including one or two people I asked at work) that 1MHz is right. What a shame - to be able to gloat about outsmarting Wikipedia might have been nice...
