Permanent deletion of data

12
Recently, I came across an article that even if we delete the files from our hard disk, the files can still be retrieve later by digital forensics experts. Formatting the hard drive also does not work. Therefore the solution is to use some specialize deletion softwares or alternatively destroy the physical hard disk. Otherwise when you sell away your computer, your passwords & accounts, etc can be seen.

Does anyone know of any of the deletion softwares available that allow us to permanently delete the data without those foreinsic experts able to retreive it again?

As a matter of fact, there are numerous deletion s/w. I forget to mention that actually i am referring to a good & reliable permanent deletion s/w without hidden codes that contains time restriction, info fishing, tracking, etc. It has to be user friendly and the s/w must has to be proven & time-tested.

Step 1

Throw the hard drive into a volcano, allow the liquid to dry, crush the rock formed into a hundred small stones.

Step 2 Throw the stones into a volcano, allow the liquid to dry, crush the rock formed into a hundred small stones.

Step 3 Go back to step 2.

Note: Make sure you don't get too close to the volcano.
Disadvantage: Might run out of active volcanoes.

PGP has a tool for erasing and wiping the clear area of your harddisk. It does so by performing a number of passes, writing random bytes to the unallocated space on your harddrive.

Hi.

When you delete a file in windows, the data written on the hard drive is not acctully deleted. Only the record of where you file was located is deleted.
So you data is acctually there and could be recovered, tho it would take much time and efford.

Some tools exists that override each bit of data in the file your deleting so that no part of you old file exists, and is therefore unrecoverable.

When you format the hard drive, not using the quick format, each bit on your drive is filled and the emptyed again so you can be pretty sure nothing is left to recover when that is done, tho it could be done with some sci-fi like wonder gadged I suppose.
