Looking for a programming job / Where should i start?

Hi!

Sorry for the off-top. Now I am searching for a new job opportunity. Monster, Dice, Careerbuilder, hotjobs are OK but does anybody now anything good except for these ones? Communities, blogs...

Thank you in advance!

Hi there,

being in the IT field since 1994, i have conducted a few dozens of interviews as well as attended a few interview.. i see many disadvantages in candidates, such i.e knowledge on the subject of the interview, jargon (terms), knowledge on the lastest technology in the market.. many more things.. sometimes poor understanding of questions being asked.

sometimes these are the things that can turn u down.. am not saying that u need to be up-to-date with the lastest technology, but at least equiped yourself with a little knowledge when attending interview.. let say when you are going to attend an interview for the post of junior programmer.. am sure you will have a list job related requirement in your hand.. so do a little homework.. surf the net, ask frens about the topic of the interview.. finally attend the interview with a little knowledge..

never use the word 'don't know', instead use the word 'not sure' when you are asked a question out of your knowledge ring.. 'not sure' sounds better isn't it? i would love to employ any one who is genuin.. freshie?? no problem.. on the job training can be provided.. so if you are a freshie.. never stop applying for job posting.

make sure u don't run out of topic when answering questions.. my fav question will be.. 'where do you want to be 5 years from now'.. the answer that i would expect is 'i would like to grow with the company'.. pls try to understand the question clearly.. if you are unsure or don't understand pls do not hesitate to ask the interviewer to repeat the question.. do be affraid as he/she wont eat you up.. remember that the interviewer is also another human being..

do not ever and ever demand for salary, also do not take up a job for a very low salary.. my first job offered me RM 600..00 ($ 157.00) as monthly wages.. i took up the job.. but why? well i was just a backup operator on part-time basis.. i felt it's good enough to cover my meal & hostel charges back in 1994.. instead if i was offered the post of programmer with the same amount of monthly wages.. i wouldn't have taken the job.. agree with me?

above all, you must love your job & working environment.. agree with me? image if your are offered the post of junior programmer and your desk is placed in the storage are.. how can u work?

it's not the matter of getting the job, but it's all about liking the job.. resume is always an issue in interviews.. pls prepare a simple and straight forward resume with related details.. i have seen a resume which is 17 pages tick.. u think i have time to go thru it? there it goes into dustbin.. :) sorry to say sad to say..

good luck & take care my fren..

Have you tried craigslist? You might find some good work there.

I heard a lot of people have success with Job Fairs. You really get to know the people at the companies and they have a chance to meet you so the chances are better.
