Arranging thumbnails

Can someone give me a basic script example for arranging thumbnails on a page. I have always put them in tables that CSS is obviously better. Also, I like to put writing underneath the thumbnails as well, how do I get around that?

Thanks in advance

Are you looking for an automated script(php/cgi) or are you looking for a layout in CSS?

Just want to make sure before I post the answer.

There was no reply to this, but I am interested in the same question. I am using CSS and wanting to arrange thumbnails on a page. Most websites I look into use front page and so have tables with lots of specifications that seem over complicated. What I would like is to write something that took account of the number of thumbnails to be displayed and arranged them in rows and columns with nice spacing using rules that I implement, is this possible?
Many thanks for any help.

P.S. please keep it simple as I am very new to web design :o

You can apply a CSS class to every img tag, then use padding and margins for the spacings, if the images are generated dynamically from a dabase, it is even much easier and you only have to apply the class 1 time
