Hi Experts

I am probably the most novice of novices in this discussion because i dont even know if i am in the correct forum.

My problem is i have to create a website tour of our website. It should show the user where to click to do this and where to click to do that etc.

I have no idea where to start is their tools available to do this. I have searched the net and found some ideas but we dont have a big budget and i live in South Africa and most of the products has a $ tag next to it. Please help in guiding me to the best resources or tools i can use. We do have Macromedia Dreamweaver installed to create our pages but not for website tours and presentation .

Thanks in advance.

I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to accomplish. A "website tour" would be something the guide the user, sort of like a site map. Telling the user where to find certain pages for certain things. Am I right?

Yes like a website tour to show the user where to find things on different pages. It would be like a site map but just a visual representations thereof with moving cursors and simulated clicking of mouse events for example.

Flash is a great tool to have. So are you thinking of taking screen shots of different pages, and just having a cursor moving around clicking things and showing different links? possibly with a narrorator in the background?

Yes something in that fashion, but the narrorator will be used in conjunction with little help messages just incase the user does not have sound for some reason. So what would u suggest? Our deadline is at the end of the month.

How much experience with flash do you have?

Like i said im a novice or no-experience at all. I just finished my IT Qualification and havent come across flash yet except opening flash movies.

I have tried embedding flash movies into some test webpages and it worked fine, but like i said we need to create the flash tour or any type of tour for our site.

Thanx.

Well if you have to experience with flash, you're not ready to be doing complicated animations and stuff like that. Here you will find many links to tutorials and guides on Flash and Actionscript. Start with the basics, such as basic drawing and motion tweens.

if you are going to do this with flash, i would recommend making a temporary tour while you learn how to do this more advanced stuff. something easy would be to find a program to record your screen, and navigate the site while recording yourself. you can use the macromedia studio to convert this recording into a .flv (flash video) and cut off your stuff (start button/taskbar), and then you can just use the prebuilt FLVPlayback component to play this video to your users. if i remember right, you can also add custom audio instead of the video's audio, so you could record a track talking about your site and use that. this way visitos will have something to look at, and you might be able to use the video as a basic template for what you want later
