Flash Bar Chart Project for Myspace

Hi, I'm a junior developer in London for a company that provides charities with webpages and out users with fundraising tools so they can get the most out of using the web.

Our current project is to build something with Flash that will pull data from a database - possibly ASP or RSS - to then use that data to show how much money people have donated for their charity and how much remains with regards to their target for charity (e.g. Cancer Research).

My question is this, for it to work on myspace I'm concerned that once I have it all put together that it wont work. I've been looking at tutorials and examples of bar charts from asp code and most of them seem not to work - however rss seems to be fairly happy... can anyone point me in the right direction in terms of url, ideas, books or anything!

I'm using Flash 8 for this project and I have access to most software. I'd really appreciate ANY input on this. Thanks.

Feel free to email me or reply here - my email is kai@justgiving.com

I've moved this to the Flash forum where you'll get more help. If you have problems with ASP, post them in the ASP forum.

Sorry my bad, however I thought maybe asp coders would possibly know the answer to it as the question is using ASP with Flash.

Specific queries regarding ASP can be posted in the ASP forum which can be accessed here. Javascript will not help unless you plan to use AJAX.

I should also point out that you should not post your email address because spammers can quite easily get hold of it. I don't moderate this forum otherwise I would have removed the email.

BTW, welcome to TheScripts. Hope you find a solution to your problem.

Thanks, I'd edit it if I could... but it seems I can't. Ah well! Maybe I'll get lucky and someone will remove it and give me a reply with some kinda solution.

Your primary difficulty may be getting the external data when the flash object is embedded in a MySpace page. I would suggest creating a test scenario for loading an external XML file from your server, and embedding it in MySpace to see if permissions restrict external access. If this all works correctly, then you should have no problem embedding a full working Flash Movie.
