Copying specific data from xml to excel spreadsheet

Good day.

I have a number of xml files in a folder. Each file contains data on a single work project.
Also I have a single excel spreadsheet and I manually copy the required data (project no, date, etc.) for each project to the spreadsheet. Sometimes the spreadsheet already has the project number and I only have to input the corresponding data, sometimes I need to input the project number as well.

The question is: can I somehow "make" excel scan each xml file in a specific folder and write the data that corresponds to each project to predefined cells in the spreadsheet?

Have you tried to open the xml file as excel?
