Why DOESNT AOL DO ANYTHING.. music videos ect...

Im Not Sure if This Is The Right Thing To Leave A Message Under Or Not But I Really Need Help. I Have Aol. And I Think Aol Doesnt Play Videos And Things Period. It Wont Play Music or Videos. And if It Does Play It'll Play Bits And Pices Of What Im On. Im Not Sure if Its Aol Or Its Just Something I Need To Download . I Used To Have Comcast And Everything Played Perfectly But Once I Switched Over To Aol Nothing Plays. I Saw Aol So I Just Came To This. Does Anyone Know What I Can Do To Make Videos And Music Work?

Get off AOL?

And why oh why did you capitalize every word? It makes it hard to read.

Seriously though, your problems are probably local to your computer, not AOL.
Aug 12 '08 #2
Sorry =[

Its a habit. But its not my computer. Ive been asking around and everybody who has aol says that it does that. And i cant get off aol. Its the program that i have now.

Why not? Are you using dialup? If you have broadband, AOL is absolutely unnecessary. AOL is just a browser when you are using broadband. You are buying internet access from someone else.

If you aren't using dialup, uninstall AOL. It's that simple. Go back to using Internet Explorer.

AOL is a company that serves no purpose in the modern world, and needs to die off.

Well Yes I Do Have Dialup. I Dont Have Broadband. Is There A Difference?

NOOOOOOO!!! we need them, as the old saying goes: If you cant be a good example, be a horrible warning.

In all fairness they dug their own hole, they just refused to evolve, which in IT is suicide, so let them struggle on so that all the new IT guys can see what being stubborn/ignorant/lazy will do to you in this industry

Stop capitalizing every word

It makes it hard to read.

Yes, there's a difference between dialup and broadband. If you can afford cable/dsl internet, you should get it, because at it's slowest its 10 times faster than dialup. And it's typically not much more expensive (although I don't know where you live, my experience is in America).

AOL is the worst company you could have chosen. They overcharge for "features" that nobody has needed for 15 years. You can have an AOL email and messenger for free, why should you pay them for internet access?

If you can't get broadband, you should still go with a different dialup company. One that won't overcharge you.

Ok. Well i try to get broadband. But other than than theres no way that i can be helped?

The problem is that your connection is so slow that it can't play videos or music because it can't download them fast enough.

You say that occasionally it'll play bits and pieces, that's because it is coming in slower than it is playing.

You could pause it, and walk away for a few minutes, and come back, and some of it should play.

But dialup is a thing of the past.

Dialup is replaceable, for a price. If broadband is too expensive, there are competing companies such as AT&T, NetZero, etc... who also do dialup.

As to your original question, it sounds like 1) an AOL-specific issue that someone who had AOL would need to help you with. If you are an AOL subscriber, this would be a better question for their support - which should be available by phone or email as listed on their bill.

Or, possibly, this could be a hardware issue - what is your current CPU/RAM/HD configuration? (BTW - especially with dialup, streaming media such as video would take a VERY long time, so it may be that it's just loading extremely slowly)
Aug 12 '08 #10
That makes sense.

CPU/RAM/HD
What is that?

That makes perfect sense, and theres no help for that? I would just have to get a new service

What part of "Don't capitalize every word" don't you understand?

Right click your "My Computer" and click properties.

The last paragraph: "Computer:" should have all the information you need.

Well, I'm telling you to stop. It shouldn't be that hard to understand, right?

I mean, you come to this site where you get help for free, and then have to be asked then told several times to stop doing something annoying. It's a wonder you're getting any help at all.

It's a habit you need to break if you want to continue getting help.
Aug 12 '08 #17
I Dont Need Attitude. I Need Help. If Its So Hard For You To Understand Then Mayb You Dont Need To Be Working With This Kinda Of Thing. Ill Find Help Elsewhere.

THANK YOU ANYWAY.

This thread is getting off track... first off, I can't fathom where or why you would get into a habit of capitalizing every word in a paragraph. It must be terribly tedious to hold down the shift key for every letter at the beginning of the word. I'm sure that they don't teach you to do that in any English learning class on the entire planet.

We are here to help you with your computer problems, but looking at it more broadly, we are also trying to help you with your communication skills so that you can be more effective in the future!

Second, while capitalizing every word is annoying it doesn't make it impossible to help you so don't worry about it so much. You have been asked but we don't have any rules against it so if you want to do it you still can. There is no need to continue forcing you to change your habit if you are dead set against changing it.

Here is a reference to that part of the rules which state using all capitals is not allowed (Things that are generally unacceptable).

Clearly, using capitals for each word, in contravention of the rules of writing English, can be interpreted as :
  1. Using all capitals - especially after having been asked not to by a moderator.
  2. Not using English on the site. Also mandatory.

However this is interpreted, and we rely on our moderators to interpret and enforce the rules, you were asked not to do so and the only response we expect in response to this post is an apology.

If you feel that you have been unfairly treated then you may always choose to PM your complaint to an administrator who will look into it in detail. You have no reason to complain in this case.
