Convert a varchar column in a db2 table to UTF-8

P: 2

I am having a db2 table which stores an XML data in a column of type varchar(32000). This contains several data like -> 'def N abcd'. I want to check this column value for a row for the character '' and convert it to '°'.
There are several charcetrs like this in the XML that needs to be converted. I am using a PL/1 DB2 program.

Please suggest a best approach.
