When would you NOT see DB2 objects in PACKAGEDEP if Java is being used?

This is a question for Java programmers who have dealt with DB2 UDB LUW or DB2 UDB LUW DBA types. I'm in a shop where it doesn't appear that ANY of the tables for our project show up in columns BSCHEMA and BNAME of SYSCAT.PACKAGEDEP. I'd love to say it's because it's all being done in Stored Procedures or Functions, but ROUTINEDEP and FUNCDEP seem pretty naked too. Is there some sort of way that a Java program can access DB2 tables without having to bind the program in such a way where you'd see the tables or other DB2 objects accessed represented in such system tables?
