sending alerts to users

hi everyone, i am making a calendar notification system. say İ have a table named alerts and it has columns such as : e-mail, mobileNo, alerttype(can be sms, e-mail or both), alertdate, alerttime ....

i need a system or struct that will always watch this alerts table and when the date and time comes for every record on this table it depending on the alerttype it will call and execute my functions that can send sms, email or both..

exampling : say we have records as here..

e-mail mobileNO alerttype alertdate, alerttime
aa@aa.aa 12345 sms jun24 14:25
bb@bb.bb 456789 both jun24 14:36
cc@cc.cc 125874 email jun26 15:00

i need something that will watch this table and in june 24 14:25 it will send an sms to 12345 , and same day on 14:36 an sms and an email to second row, and on june 26 at 15:00 it will send an email to cc@cc.cc ...

what is the name for this "thing" that will help me accomplish this task? and how can i learn more of it. if you have can you please provide additional information and / or samples for that? i am using a DB2 enterprise edition, and Rational Data Architect integrated rational Software Architect.

what if i want this "thing" send alerts 30 minutes , or 1 day before the alert time. what should i change..

thank you all..

The "thing" you are looking for is a scheduler. DB2 includes a basic scheduling component called "Task Center" where, among other things, you can schedule jobs to run at specific times. Sounds like what you are after.
