Cobol cursor and update processing

I am using a cursor in my Cobol program and it's gathering all the right records. What I would like to do is update one of the records that I have fetched from that cursor.

I can't use "FOR UPDATE OF" on the existing cursor (CUR1) because of an "ORDER BY" tagged onto it.

Can I do a singleton update of the record using a "WHERE CURRENT OF CUR1"?

If I can do that, can I rest assured that the update will be applied only to that record current in CUR1 ?

Thanks.
Fred
