DB2 Nicknames and Indexes

Hi all

Please bear with me, I'm still very inexperienced when it comes to DB2, so my questions might seem a little silly. With that covered, now on to the question :)

I have a DB2 Enterprise Server installation on a local server. I've created a remote database connection from that server to a backend server which holds some data I need in my daily updates and I've created multiple nicknames to link the backend database to my local database, so my queries can harvest the needed data.

I've been wanting to expand on my queries, I need to fetch additional columns from the backend server. In doing so however, my queries become too slow to work with (the total cost in timerons are 9 doubled).

I ran one of the queries through the Explain Query tool and from that I can see that none of the indexes on the remote server are used when I pull my data. Basically I'm harvesting data unindexed, which is a pain.

Is there any way for me to have my queries work through the indexes on the remote server, or am I missing something else?

I'm running DB2 UDB 9.1 on a Windows XP box, and the backend is DB2 8 on running on OS/390.

Thanks in advance
