Questions about number of connection and components to check for the status of DB2

11
Hello, everyone.

I began to work with DB2 V8.1 for Linux on debian from last month, I'm beginner to DB2, and I have two questions.

First, searched articles related to "number of connection" at the forum, everyone recommended to use "Event monitor" and "Snapshot", it needs to connect to Database. But, I want to know how can I get the number of connection at a current point of view without connection to DB2.

For example, under the circumstance that nobody can make a new connection but DB2 is still running, DBA would like to check how many connections does DB2 have. How can I do for it?

Second, I'm plan to implement the simple monitoring system to check the status of DB2. Which components do I have to check? In my opinion, some kernel parameters like ipcs - semaphore, the number of connection, etc. It would be better if there was no connection to DB2.
What do you think of this?

Thanks.
