Restore problem, unknown version of DB2 created the backup

P: 1

I have an unknown db2 backup file and I need to identify what I need to restore it. Is there any way to determine what version created it?

The filename doesn't look like the db2 version 9 filenames that I'm used too although that can have been changed. The system that created the file is from around 2000 so I'm guessing that either version 7 or 8 created it, am I right?

When restoring do I have to have the same OS (linux or windows)?
Do it matter if I restore to a 32bit or 64bit machine?

I was hoping to get a lead by reading the start of the backup file with a hex editor but all I could find was references to DB2 and various other text information (so I'm pretty sure that it is a db2 backup and that it is not encrypted or compressed).

Any help would make me very happy.
