A package is an object created by binding a DBRM (or a '.bnd' file in Linux,Unix,Windows). Many packages with identical names can exist in the same system, using the VERSION pre-processor parameter.

A plan is an object created by binding a set of DBRM's and/or a list of package names.

Distributed applications always use packages.
