Does concat have limits?

21
Hi all,

Iv been trying to concat strings and variables together, but it seems when i tryo to concat 2 or more variables,

SET wsErrorMsg = 'FNS0007 PARA 1310- : ERROR ON SELECT!' ||
' OPR_ID = ' || wsOprIChar ||
' SQLCODE = ' || wsDispSQLCode;

an error occurs:

1002: [IBM][CLI Driver][DB2/NT] SQL0440N No authorized routine named "||" of type "FUNCTION" having compatible arguments was found. LINE NUMBER=1002. SQLSTATE=42884

wsErrorMsg is declared as Char (250);

isnt concat able to connect as many strings as possible as long as it fits in the receiving variable?

thanks

Hi,
This is because SQL CODE is numeric. You have to cast it to character before concatenating
So make your statement as
SET wsErrorMsg = 'FNS0007 PARA 1310- : ERROR ON SELECT!' ||
' OPR_ID = ' || wsOprIChar ||
' SQLCODE = ' || cast(wsDispSQLCode as char(10));

Cheers

you may also want to colesce on nullable columns to make sure it concatanates correctly
