db2 8.2 server install

P: n/a
I have a server (win2k3) with the db2 8.2 runtime client already
installed on it accessing another server on the network (running
db2-8.2 with win2k). Would it brake anything on the win2k3 machine if
I installed the db2-8.2 server to it?
I'm thinking of migrating the database to the win2k3 machine because
it's newer/more powerful hardware. My thoughts are that I'll only
have to worry about the catalog entries for the nodes and databases.
Any thoughts or tips?

No, it won't break anything.
Install your V8.2 server on your Win2k3 machine, but first, just to make
sure you don't run into problems, remove the DB2 client.
Once you have installed db2 on the server, you'll need to backup the db from
the Win2k system and restore it to the Win2k3 system.
Just make sure the paths to the db and the containers can be created on the
target, i.e., enough room on the target drives for the containers to be
created by the restore command.

If your current clients connecting to the db on the Win2k system have
catalogued that db on their machines, they will have to update thier
database system and node directories so that they ppint to the new db in the
new Win2k3 syst. Or else, if you don't need the old syst. then give its IP
address to the new one and they won't have to do anything.
Regards, Pierre.
