Searching a CLOB of XML

Friends:

In our DB2 UDB LUW 8.x database, we've got XML stored in CLOBs, and I'm
looking for a function that will let me search one of our CLOBs for a
specific element name more efficiently than using a LIKE of the form
'%<tag>%'.

I understand that in our version of DB2 (again, we're not yet on v9),
there are several XML functions available, and I'm wondering if they're
designed solely for taking row/column data and converting it *into*
XML, or if there are among these functions the ability go the other way
as well.

Thanks,

--Jeff
