problem with clean up

1
Hi,

I have been trying to delete a lot of colums with mere delete statement and due to that the processes are becoming very slow. Insertions happen at the same time and the insertions are more in number than the the deletions.
I could use import/load /dev/null from..... but that is used to nullify the whole table. I need to delete data and do clean up on date basis. Could somebody please give me a suggestion on this issue.

Thanks
