db2audit fails to create audit.log

P: n/a

I have DB2 v8 on AIX.

After having done 'db2audit start' and 'db2audit flush'; I invoked
'db2audit extract delasc' and got error message AUD00003N, I/O Error on
accessing .../sqllib/security/db2audit.log", make sure the
directory/file exists and has the right permission. I checked the
directory structure and there is r/w privelges and the fenced user id
has SYSADM privileges.

Does anyone have suggestions on where to begin trouble-shooting.
