client userid and odbc

I am connecting to a linux based db2 v8.1.9. I want to use CLIENT USERID
in my views to perform data restriction. Unfortunately it not set inside
an ODBC session, a client CLI session or a server session. All three
return blank as the result even though the userid is available for
diagnostics. On the other hand it is set as I wish and can be SELECTed
when I run my GUI client of choice, aquadata studio. Is there some odbc
parameter or db2 command I must issue before CLIENT USERID is available?

I wonder if you're confusing CLIENT_USERID, which is a value you (or
aquadata) set by calling sqleseti and USER, which is the identity of the
connecting user?

Sure enough. I read about CLIENT USERID, it worked in ADS, and I missed
the requirement for the API call as well as USER (which accidentally was
on the "next" page in the adobe reader I was using). Thank you for
pointing this out.
