I downloaded a new copy of v9 to a virgin machine.
It does not respond to DB2START, indicating that "The database manager
is not started."
I don't know what local or system variables need to be set, and there
is nothing to help me!
The "Information," and "Documentation" files included refer to version
8.2.
How can I start version 9 in Windows, locally, with WinXP?

Forgive me for asking the obvious:
Did you install DB2? You just state you downloaded....
I have the test drive running on XP and it installed without a hitch.
Cheers

Do you have XP Pro? Previous versions were not supported on XP Home.

Good point. AFAIK there is a beta for DB2 Express C on Widows XP Home.
Not sure whether it's on DB2 Viper level though.

I think I did, it was late at night. The Control Center, etc work
fine, but don't allow me to run db2 -- they do show me the instances
etc, but do not allow installation of a new database, and the message
is always either, "a database connection does not exist," or "No start
database manager command was issued." If I enter: "db2 start database
manager," or, "db2start," the return message is "No start database
manager command was issued."
I did not install this OVER db2 8.1+, this is a brand new installation
on a machine that never had db2 installed. I'm wondering if certain
configuration parameters need to be set which would otherwise be
carried over from a previous installation?
