Partition groups in DB2 8.2 on Linux

Hi,

I'm trying to understand what do I need to do when one of my partitions
fail or is dropped from a partition group. Do I have to run the
REDISTRIBUTE DATABASE PARTITION GROUP command or will redistribution
happen automatically?

Thanks,

The DB2 manual states that you have to redistribute the data after the drop
if tables existed in the tablespaces on that partition. See the second
"Note" here: http://tinyurl.com/78xp3

Thanks Knut.
So what happen when a partition fails - is there a way to monitor that
and recover automatically? We also have DB2 ICE for clustering if that
helps.

You can use regular HA solutions provided for your OS for that.
DPF in itself is NOT an HA solution. It's a scale-out solution.
If you have 6 logical partitions spread across 3 machines one possible
layout is to fail over each logical partition to a different physical
machine.
So if machine 1 dies machine 2 and 3 share the load.
You can also have a separate standby machine with access to all the
partitions data.

Thanks Serge, as always your comments are very helpful. I guess I need
to talk to our Linux folks...
Do you have any recommendations? Can "ICE" be used as the HA
solution? I guess I'm not yet clear on how the recovery would work
and if it can be automated, down to the level or redistributing the
data if needed. I guess I'll figure it out along the way :)

I assume you didn't just randomly click a button while online
shopping... . There are misunderstandings here. Send me a not and CC
your existing IBM contact (pre-sales??).
