Slow connects to database

DB2 7.2 EEE
AIX 5.2
Instance is partitioned over two servers.

Server A - Catalog node & 4 data node
Server B - 4 data node

Local and remote connection times to the only database on this instance
is recently taking around 65 seconds. Sometimes the connects are
normal. Once connected the performance seems to be normal.

* Its not just the first connection which is taking a long time.
Connects are slow even after explicitly activating the db.

* We are using circular logging

* Authentication is done locally (No NIS or anything special)

* i/o waits are mostly bellow 10%, but sometimes above 80%. Other OS
level stats like CPU, memory etc look ok.

* Re-booting the servers didn't help. (They had an uptime of 352 days)

* No hints in db2diag.log even when increased to 4.

* There are no changes been done to this db recently. No change in
db/dbm or BP.

Any hint on what could be the culprit here.

Thanks a lot
