a) Bachelor of Computer Science or comparable degree.
b) Expertise with IBM DB2 UDB for either iSeries, Linux or both.
c) Knowledge of data modeling theory and practiced skillset with
Computer Associates AllFusion ERwin Data Modeler.
d) Experience in the design and implementation of a Data
Warehouse
General Job Description:
Key player in a corporate-wide Data Warehouse project to integrate
various systems through solid ETL methods, providing a consistent,
accurate and complete view of essential corporate data. Through the
use of Business Intelligence products, the Data Warehouse will provide
many levels of essential information to all departments within the
organization. With DB2 as the database system of choice, an
experienced DBA works with key members of the company to determine
data gathering needs, develop and evolve the Data Warehouse based on
these needs, be responsible for ensuring the data integrity contained
within the Data Warehouse, and maintains the database(s) to ensure
optimal performance.
Essential Job Functions
1. Reverse-engineer data models of current data sources from the
ERP and other supporting systems using ERWin
2. Work with key members of various departments to determine the
definitions of essential data elements
3. Document the mapping of all data sources to the Data
Warehouse.
4. Design Data Warehouse table structures using ERWin.
5. Understands:
a. Data Warehousing techniques as espoused by W.H. Inmon and
Ralph Kimball
b. ETL techniques, including the development of staging areas,
recoveries, data cleansing, fact and dimension tables, slowly
changing dimensions, conformations, and the use of surrogate
vs. natural keys.
c. Advanced SQL
d. The end user is the primary reason for the technology, and
therefore strives for full customer satisfaction.
6. DB2 administration including installation, configuration,
journaling, query optimization, backup and recovery strategies,
and utilization of various support tools such as the Explain
Tool, Visual Explain and DB2 Optimizer.
7. Integrate corporate security policies into any developed Data
Warehouse with the assistance of network administrators
Additional, but not required experience
1. Cognos or IBM Business Intelligence tools.
2. Microsoft Access development
3. IBM Websphere or other J2EE application servers
4. Foodservice distribution or related industry
5. Experience with IDS Power Enterprise or Power Warehouse systems
6. Experience with IBM Universe
7. Java development
8. RPG development
