compact lob data?

Sue
Hi, two questions --

1. Will compacting lob data help reduce the space occupied by the lob
column and any disadvantages to doing this?
2. I have a table with a lob column that was not compacted when the
table was first set up -- is there any way I can now compact this
column without changing the table name?

Thank you very much for helping.

Hi, two questions --

column without changing the table name? I don't believe so (if you are at V8.2.1) maybe latest fixpack will allow
you to alter table ..... column.....
HTH, Pierre.
Thank you very much for helping.
