I have been having problems with the Development Center for several
days now. It seemed to be working fine when I initially installed DB2
(LUW) Version 8 (FP7) and upgraded to FP8, except that I kept getting
SQL1131 whenever I tried to prepared a stored procedure. As a result,
I completely deleted DB2 and reinstalled version 8 and upgraded to
FP8. At that point, I experimented a bit with some of the Environment
Settings, particularly the JDK level. Since then, the Development
Center has been completely broken.
When I start the Development Center Launchpad, it prompts me to create
a new project or use an existing one. If I choose "new project" and
click on OK, it simply stays on the New/Existing Project dialog. If I
click OK again, it says that a project by that name already exists and
would I like to replace it? Regardless of whether I say yes or no, it
simply stays on that dialog and doesn't move on to the "create a
connection" part of the wizard. If I dismiss the New/Existing Project
dialog, I can click on the "Add a Connection" button on the wizard but
after that, nothing happens. If I dismiss the Launchpad altogether,
the File and Edit menus are greyed out and I can't do anything with
them. The Project menu is accessible but it just takes me back to the
New/Existing Project dialog and behaves just as poorly as when I use
the Launchpad.
I've tried every reasonable thing I can think of but can't get the
Development Center to work. I've even tried some borderline
unreasonable things like deleting all the projects and my personal
settings within the Development Center. I've tried uninstalling and
reinstalling the Development Center alone but the "modify" option in
the DB2 installer program didn't give me any option to select any
components: it listed the components which I could remove/add but
didn't give me any obvious way to select them so that the removal
could be initiated. I tried running the "repair" option within the DB2
installer but it made no difference. Finally, I completely uninstalled
DB2 again, and fully reinstalled DB2 Version 8 (FP7) and upgraded to
FP8.
Despite all that, the Development Center is just as broken as I've
described above.
What do I have to do to get the Development Center to work??? I can't
think of anything else to try. I know it worked briefly when I
installed but it has been completely broken ever since.
Could this have something to do with the JDK setting in the
Environment Settings? I noticed that it is JDK 1.3, even though DB2 V8
uses JDK 1.4. I've tried changing the JDK level to 1.4 and pointing it
at the JDK that comes with DB2 but it the Development Center continued
to be just as broken as before. Worse, I noticed that the JDK level
and directory had switched back to the 1.3 level and directory as soon
as I went back into the Environment Settings. I've also tried setting
the JDK directory to a 1.3 JDK that I have on my system but this
didn't work either.
I'm at my wits end with this problem. Can anyone tell me how to get
the Development Center working again?
I'm running on Windows XP.
I seem to have solved *some* of my problem myself.
In a final attempt to fix the Development Center, I started looking at
the menu options that were enabled. I clicked on View/Reset Views and
suddenly the Launchpad started working correctly. I was able to add a
connection to my project and generate a stored procedure.
The build of the stored procedure failed though:
CreateProcess: C:\PROGRA~1\SQLLIB\java\jdk\bin\javac -classpath
".;C:\PROGRA~1\IBM\SQLLIB\java\db2java.zip;C:\PROG RA~1\IBM\SQLLIB\java
\runtime.zip;C:\PROGRA~1\IBM\SQLLIB\java\sqlj.zip"
PKG50211002157410\PROCEDURE1.java error=2
I'm not sure what that means or how to resolve it though. Could this be
related to my JDK level?
Also, I noticed that the JDK level and path in the Environment Settings
can't be changed - well, they can be changed but they revert back as
soon as you leave the Environment Settings dialog.
What is the technique you need to use to change the JDK level and path
and KEEP THE CHANGES? I assume I am supposed to be able to change these
values, otherwise they would be greyed out. I just can't figure out how
to keep the changes.
