DB2 Image Copy & Restore..

Hi,

I have a critical requirement. I did search in the forums, but still I
am not clear.

Here is the requirement.

Our Project (ACE) has nearly 400 DB2 tables in production and Test
environment. Almost all the tables are partitioned. We just upgraded to
DB2V7 from DB2V6.1. In our project, all the DB2 tables in production
are backed up every night using image copy.

Now, before each system testing (enterprise level functionality
testing), we refresh the DB2 data in test environment from production.
When we had DB2V6.1, I was using REXX to create the DB2 unload and load
jobs to refresh the test environment. Now, I need to know if it is
possible to use the image copy jobs of production to load the data into
TEST environment. If so, how?. What extra steps I need to perform?. I
guess the production image copy dataset will have the sub system,
database and table space information in it. In our project, the
tablespace names will be same for a table in production and test, but
the database names may be different (will be same in most of the cases,
but not 100% exact). Our production DB2 sub system is DB2B and test DB2
sub system is DB2F.

Can some one help me in explaining the steps and point me where I can
get the JCLs/utilities to peform this?.

Thanks in advance,
Balaji.

Note : We don't wanna use unload & load this time. During the unload
process, our production tables will receive some realtime updates.
Because of this, we have seen minor data inconsistancies between
production and test in the past, which our business people wants us to
avoid this time. The image copy time is the only time frame during
which our production tables do not receive any updates.

You can use the V7+ UNLOAD utility running against the image copy (not the
tablespace itself) to unload the data and then reload it to your new system.

DB2 v7 Utility Guide and Reference - Chapter 2-27 UNLOAD. Check out
UNLOAD FROMCOPY which will unload the image copy to a flat file and
create a load card for your load process.

you also need to look up the manual about OBIDXLAT. the new database and
tablespace you created in testing environment will be difference than the
production from db2 perspective
