force in a join the election of a table as the most important

hello,

we use a join of eight tables. the query is run through
a job on a daily basis. one of the tables is used for
deciding if the query has to bring data or not. the decicision
is based on special values for a record with a given date.

Our problem is that the query for the days with no data
runs also very long, because the important table is retrieved
at a late state of the join. If it would be asked first,
no data would be found and the query would not last so long.

Do you have some advice?
