Defragmentation

In the situation where
all tables are managed by system, and
Windows 2003 Server, and
DB2 v8.2, and
RAID 5-0 with six disks,

does regular running of Windows built-in defrag utility make sense?

SS

PS I assume that Maged by Database tables don't need this anyway.

I think it does if you are sharing the same filesystem for something
else that is actively writing/deleting from the filesystem.

DMS tspaces on raw partitions obviously don't, dms tspaces on
filesystems may need defrag'ing only if you extend them and there is
something else updating the filesystem.

I'd suggest you shut down db2 if you do any defrag'ing using Windows.
