create users in db2

Omar Vazquez

i developed an app in V.B. now i am trying to connect to db2, i think
before i must create a user in the database, i made it in the next
way.

in db2 control center
user y groups
add new
i gave it all settings but from my app denies me the acces, i can
acces with a ODBC and the user db2admin but i thing it's not right.
thanks in advance.

DB2 uses the OS for user authentication. Add the user to the os.

DB2 has no concept of a database user and of creating one.
In DB2, users must be created in the OS security access methods/files.
When a connect is issued, DB2 asks the OS to validate the user id and pw.
If godd, then DB2 will take over and use the entries you made in control
center.
So create the user in the OS first.

After you've defined the user to the operating system; you'll have to
GRANT access to your tables to the user (or to PUBLIC).

See the "SQL Reference Vol. 2" for details about GRANT. See the
"Administration Guide: Implementation" for information about securing
your database. These manuals are supplied with your DB2 distribution and
are also available on the IBM website.
