Move from Solaris to AIX

All,

We are going to be moving from Solaris to AIX and we were informed today
that with Veritas Volume Manager and Filesystem 4.0 we can import a Solaris
filesystem into AIX.
We know that we can take a database backup on Solaris and restore it on AIX.
But can we also just move the datafiles (using above mentioned method) and
bring up the database?
I know that the binaries etc.. will have to be replaced with the AIX ones.

Thanks.

You shouldn't just move the files, even on an AIX to AIX move. Do the backup
and restore.

Hey Mark,

We were not thinking of "moving" the files but rather moving whole
filesystems (everything is located on the SAN).

I don't believe that IBM will support that method. In fact, a backup
and a redirected restore is pretty much the only supported way to
migrate a database from Solaris to AIX.

Yes, I understood what you want to do. But I don't think it will work.
