aix db2 client

On an AIX server, I used the db2install script from the command line
to install the DB2 UDB 8.1 client. I applied the fix pak 7 to it. Now
I need to use the client to test connections to another AIX server
which has DB2 server and instances running. How do I proceed? Please
help.
Thanks,
Yasaswi

1. Install FP7a if you really used FP7.

2. Catalog a TCPIP node to point to the AIX server. You'll need the
TDPIP port number that the instance uses. If you have multiple
instances; you'll need to define multiple nodes. Discuss authentication
requirements with the UDB DBA for the AIX system. (This assumes that you
will be using TCPIP communications between the client and the server.)

3. Catalog the databases at each of the nodes you've just defined. You
may want to use local alias names at the client to make attaching to the
appropriate database easier.

4. Verify that you don't have firewalls that will prohibit the TCPIP
communications between client and server.

5. Verify your logon ID at the client has access to the tables if you
will not be using the USER keyword of the CONNECT command.

See the Command Reference manual for details about CATALOG ..... NODE
and CATALOG DATABASE.

Once all is done, you should be able, on the client to:
db2 CONNECT TO alias_name
or
db2 CONNECT TO alias_name USER user_name

Hi Phil:
Thanks for the reply. However, when I login as root on the AIX machine
and go to /usr/opt/db2_08_01/bin and try to run db2cc. I get a
db2javait not found error. Also when you say Catalog TCP/IP node, do
you mean on the client machine or server machine. If you mean client
machine which user should I be signed in as into the server? Finally
when I try to run the db2setup that comes with the AIX, Admcl.sbcs.Z
software it asks me if I want to create any instances. I expect some
client software to run but it is asking me to create instances. Please
help.
Thanks,
Yasaswi

I solved this problem. I realized that unlike the db2 client software
for a Windows OS, for Unix OS, I have to create instances even on the
client host. And then login in as the instance user and run the db2ca
command to get the configuration assistant.
Thanks,
Yasaswi

Once you've don this; you can execute the ...../sqllib/db2setup command
from the instance owner's home directory from any other userid. (This
assumes that appropriate permissions for the directories have been set.)
Once you've done this; you will be able to connect from the other
userid. If you need to make this available to all users; there are
common places where you can place this command to make it available to
all users as part of logon processing.
