Anything newer than DB2 version 5 client

I've just started at a place that is running DB2 version 5.0.

The client software is also quite old (from 1998).

My question is, is there any newer and compatible ODBC drivers or client
software that I can get my hands on that
you would recommend ?

I will be doing VB.NET development against this old beast so would
appreciate
any links to handy utilities for running ad-hoc queries.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

You haven't stated what platform you are running; the DB2 version numbers
vary somewhat from platform to platform. Windows/Unix/Linux is on Version 8,
z/OS (OS/390) is on Version 8, AS/400 is on Version 5, and so on.

It's hard to advise you on software without knowing your platform.....

Since you state VB.NET, I assume you're talking Windows XP (client) with
some UDB server. V8.1 is about the earliest, 8.2 (due "real soon now") is
supposed to improve on the .NET drivers. ODBC is not really the way to go
with VB.NET, but it works just fine with V8. For Australia, visit
http://www.ibm.com/au/ and review the "Shopping" section. Alternatively,
contact you favourite (Sydney) software store.
