the problem: the users want to enter a single space in a col/field
from a jsp page, and have it go back and forth as such to UDB/V8.
looking at the rows in various editors, hex(foo) shows 20 for the
length of the column. this is good.
but the users want to be able to hit <spacebar> on an input field,
and get that back later. why a space is important is a legacy
software issue which i can't change (think: cobol).
jdbc, but not the database editors, seems to truncate to a zero
length string. the columns are type char.
from what i read on comp.databases.oracle, this method on
connection will do the trick. it's not defined on jdbc 2.0.
something equivalent in db2?? didn't come up with any obvious
candidates.
thanks,
robert
